Frequently Asked Questions
About Paddington
What makes Paddington different from other childcare organisations?
In a few words: the homely feel of our small scale, our personal approach to both parents and children, our focus on healthy food freshly prepared on site, and the fact that children spend as much time outdoors as possible.
From what age until what age can my child come to you?
Whenever you are ready. Your child is welcome from birth and can start at any time. Most babies begin once maternity and/or parental leave has ended. Childcare ends when your child starts primary school, because we do not offer after-school care (BSO).
How does childcare at Paddington differ from a playgroup (peuterspeelzaal)?
In the past there was a clear difference between a playgroup and a day-care centre. Nowadays, that difference is much smaller. In both settings, children are stimulated in their development and are playfully prepared for primary school. They learn to become independent, play together, share, and feel comfortable in a group.
Settling-in sessions and daily care
What does the settling-in sessions look like?
Before your child officially starts in the group, there are two settling-in sessions, each lasting half a day. During the first session, we also have the intake meeting with you. Does your child need more time to settle in? Then of course that is always possible.
Will I have contact with a fixed staff member in the group?
In every group (baby, toddler and preschool) your child has a mentor. This Childcare professional is present in the group and also maps your child’s development every six months. We look at social-emotional development, speech and language development, cognitive development, and motor skills.
Will I be kept informed during a childcare day?
Absolutely! From time to time you will receive a fun update through the Bitcare app. If you have a baby, you will also receive feedback on how the day went in terms of feeding and sleep.
What do you do if my child becomes ill during a childcare day?
As unpleasant as it is, it can always happen. As soon as we notice your child isn’t feeling quite well, we call you to discuss what to do. If your child already has a fever or a contagious illness at home, we ask you to keep your child at home.
My child follows a sleep coach schedule. Do you take that into account?
Yes. Such a schedule only works if it is followed consistently, so during the childcare day we also pay close attention to sleep and wake times. Please share this with your child’s mentor so the professionals in the group are informed.
Nutrition and care
What do I need to bring for my child and what does Paddington provide?
You only need to bring your child, a spare set of clothes, any special dietary formula, and a pacifier. Everything else is provided by us.
Do you take allergies or dietary requirements into account?
We use standard infant formula. If your baby uses dietary formula, for example cow’s-milk-free, we ask you to bring it with you. For fruit and vegetable snacks and meals, we can certainly take allergies or dietary wishes into account.
Are there extra costs, for example for diapers or food?
No. The only thing you pay is the hourly rate. This includes diapers, standard baby food/formula and all meals.
Flexibility and extra childcare
How does it work if I want to drop off or pick up my child earlier/later once?
If you know in advance, please send the location an email. On the day itself you can simply call us, and we will take it into account. For example, we will give your child breakfast or an evening meal, so you don’t have to worry about that anymore.
Can I book extra childcare on special days or during school holidays?
That depends on availability in the group. In consultation, a lot is possible. Please email us in good time so we can look at it together. Both Paddington locations are closed on official public holidays.
Registration and administration
Do I have to pay the entire invoice myself?
Yes. Paddington collects the full amount for the booked hours each month. If you are entitled to childcare allowance, you will receive a part back from the Dutch Tax Office (Belastingdienst). The exact amount depends on your combined taxable income.
Can I take a look before registering my child?
Of course. We fully understand you want to see where your child will be and with whom. You are very welcome for a tour at the location of your choice. Call or email us to make an appointment, or fill in the contact form so we can get in touch with you.
How can I register my child?
You can register your child non-bindingly via this registration form. Please note: childcare is only confirmed after the agreement has been signed.
